Jane Brody

You might be wondering who Jane Brody is.  Well, if you don't know, then I will tell you more than you probably want to know about her.  Before we start at the beginning, you should know that she is an author that writes about the topics of science and nutrition.

We start in 1941 when Jane Ellen Brody was born on May 19 in Brooklyn, New York, meaning she probably had a predisposition to being a jerk, as most people from Brooklyn are.  Regardless of whatever her demeanor was, she went to the New York State College of Agriculture, part of Cornell University.  Her major in college was in biochemistry since she wanted to be a research scientist.  She graduated in 1962 with a bachelor's degree, but went on to become a journalist since she wanted to help people live better.  After taking an interest in journalism, she went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of journalism.  She earned a master's degree in science writing in 1963, just a year after earning her bachelor's.  That's pretty quick.

Her first job after graduating was writing for the Minneapolis tribune as a science writer.  She worked there for two year while dealing with loneliness and isolation, causing her to spend a lot of time eating.  She went from weighing just a little over 100 pounds to 140 pounds.  She soon decided that she wanted to be healthy and started eating better.  This led her to losing the weight and never gaining it back again.

In 1965, she went back to New York City and got a job with The New York Times.  She covered biology and medicine while writing the paper's personal health column.  Even though she didn't really want to write the health column, she started it in 1976 and it is now syndicated by over 100 paper in the country.  In addition to writing a health column, Brody became very involved in fitness.  In the 80s, her exercise routine consisted of playing tennis five times a week, running, biking and swimming.  She also put a focus on a particular diet.  She focused on eating potatoes, pasta, rice, bread and various meats and poultry, all in moderation.  She even managed to get her husband off of a simple meat and potatoes diet which resulted in him losing close to 30 pounds.

Brody wrote several books and some have gone on to become best-sellers.  Her books Jane Brody's Nutrition Book and Jane Brody's Good Food Book both became best sellers when they were released.  She also released a book in 2009 called Jane Brody's Guide to the Great Beyond: A Practical Primer for Preparing for the End of Life.  All of her accomplishments led TIME magazine to call her the "High Priestess of Health."  Isn't that what people called Richard Simmons?

Jane Brody proved that a healthy diet is one of the biggest parts of a healthy lifestyle.  Even if you don't exercise much, it is important to watch what you eat.  Putting the wrong foods in your body on a regular basis will only resulting in you gaining more weight and feeling like crap.  If you can manage to eat good foods and exercise regularly, you can lose a lot of weight and feel better than ever before.  It's not like you have to eat rice cakes all day either.  If you really want to know the secrets to good nutrition, then you should check out her books.  Then you can start your path to a healthier lifestyle just like Jane Brody did.  Get more out of life by eating better and exercising your body the way you should.  You will thank yourself later for it.  You'll also thank Jane Brody.
